Ford – the first new U.S. aircraft carrier design in 40 years- spent several days conducting sea trials, a comprehensive test of many of the ship’s key systems and technologies.
Also included in this video is an exclusive view inside one of the ship’s fitness centers. The Ford is the first aircraft carrier class specifically designed with gyms during the initial design phase. The Ford features three gyms to accommodate weight lifting, cardio exercises, even boxing. Once completed, the Ford will boast “the best gyms on the waterfront,” said Capt. John Meier, the Ford’s commanding officer. The gyms will total over 3,000 square feet – more area than most mid-size homes in the US.
